Birdwatching in Bogotá: the Monserrate experience

September 13, 2014

Yesterday I spent a few hours up at the Monserrate Sanctuary overlooking Bogotá, and although I had visited many times before, this time was special. Armed with my 300mm telefoto and new 100mm macro lens, I was on the hunt for birds. Monserrate might just be one of the best places in the city for viewing and photographing some of these beautiful creatures. They are easy to spot, they stick around long enough for you to take pictures and there are so many different species to be discovered. I was up there for a few hours in the middle of the day and spotted at least 10 different species, 5 of which were hummingbirds. More pictures of my birding adventure can be found in my Flickr album.
